Broken Leaders
I see people who are in leadership positions wielding power that is self-serving all the time. The point of leadership is service to the people following. Politicians often wield power in order to remain in power instead of serving the people who elected them. This is an example of a leadership model that is broken. Jesus introduces a leadership model where the leader is broken. There is a significant difference because the leader is not wielding power, but leading with wisdom and authority. Check this out….
45 While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, 46 “Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 47 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.” (Luke 20:45-47 NIV)I believe that the Lord will hold leaders responsible for their leadership. You can tell that He is disgusted with the arrogant, pompous behavior of the teachers of the law (aka religious leaders). In God’s economy leaders are door holders and servants. It’s their service that elevates them to leadership roles. Leaders inspire others to live and lead. I want to be a follower of Christ who leads others to Christ by serving them. I want to be a leader who is broken before God.
