Breathe

human lungsThis is something that just about everyone I know takes for granted until there’s a problem with it. I’ve seen people who have to wear an oxygen mask just to breath. I have lost my breath before and it is really scary. Breathing in and breathing out is foundational to how our bodies were built. If I don’t breathe, I will die. As I write this I’m taking some deep “cleansing” breaths. I love this last Psalm of David. Check this out…

1 Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;

    praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;

    praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,

    praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,

    praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord. (Psalm 150:1-6 NIV)

I love the thoughts of going to the music store and picking up any instrument and using it to praise the Lord. If I were gifted like my oldest son, I could actually play coherently any instrument. I really think that the Psalmist is saying use anything and everything to praise the Lord. The Lord is worthy of my most elaborate efforts to praise Him and He loves my simple acts of worship too. I especially like the last line that says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”. That even covers animals – what do they know about praise?

As I reflect on my journey with the Lord and His incredible patience with me, I like to breathe in His Grace and breathe out His Praise. Inhale Grace – Exhale Praise. I want to always praise the Lord – on the best day as well as the worst day.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
