Boastful or Blessed

These two words are vastly different and have much to do with the posture of my heart. If I’m boastful, I’m pointing to me. If I’m blessed, I’m aware that it’s not all about me. Boasting comes from pride while blessing comes from humility.

As I journey through the book of Esther, I see a guy named Haman. He had been promoted above all the king’s nobles. He was prideful in his boasting instead of humbled by the blessing of the promotion. Check this out….

Then Haman gathered together his friends and Zeresh, his wife, 11 and boasted to them about his great wealth and his many children. He bragged about the honors the king had given him and how he had been promoted over all the other nobles and officials.

12 Then Haman added, “And that’s not all! Queen Esther invited only me and the king himself to the banquet she prepared for us. And she has invited me to dine with her and the king again tomorrow!” 13 Then he added, “But this is all worth nothing as long as I see Mordecai the Jew just sitting there at the palace gate.” (Esther 10b-13 NLT)

If I count my blessings, I’m noticing the Lord Who is the Giver of all good things.

If I’m counting my accomplishments or position, then my pride is front and center.

If I’m trusting the Lord with my life and that I am, then I realize that without Him, I am nothing and a “nobody”.   I’m a child of the Highest King and He is the One Who blesses and promotes me.  If my agenda is to follow Him and honor Him, then my pride is checked at the door to my heart.  I want to count my blessings and be thankful instead of boast of my position or any of my accomplishments.

Pressing On!
