Belong
This word jumped off the pages of scripture this morning as I read in Psalms. King David had such a plain way of speaking about the Majesty and the Powerful Presence of God. I enjoy reading David’s journal of sorts. He is royalty himself, but his journey with God is clearly marked by humility and understanding of the royalty of God. I think David realizes what every person on earth should realize – We have a Creator and we’re not Him. Check this out….
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.
The world and all its people belong to him.
2 For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas
and built it on the ocean depths.
3 Who may climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 Only those whose hands and hearts are pure,
who do not worship idols
and never tell lies.
5 They will receive the Lord’s blessing
and have a right relationship with God their savior.
6 Such people may seek you
and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob. (Psalm 24:1-6 NLT)
I’m struck by the word belong. It is a possessive word. It implies ownership. It also implies relationship. I belong to the Lord through submission to Him. Belonging to the Lord is surrendering all that I am and all that I have to Him. I also belong to my wife. I’ve made a commitment to her and she has made a commitment to me – we belong to each other. I also belong to my children. The Lord blessed me with a beautiful family and as the leader of the family, I want to belong to them as they belong to me.
I also belong to others. As a follower of Jesus, I am called to belong to Him and represent Him wherever I go. I’m going to sit on this word today. We all belong to Him – He is the Creator of all life. He is the Sustainer of all life. He makes my life full because I belong to Him. He gives me Peace through belonging to Him. Wherever I go, I belong to Him. Whatever I do, I belong to Him – I even wear His name – Christian.
Pressing On!
