Behind The Scenes

For every celebrity that we hear about or see on stage, there are dozens of people behind the scenes helping them and supporting them to help them be successful. I’m thinking of a musical artist who has talent – they need a huge “supporting cast” behind the scenes to help them launch their career and be successful.

I came across several people in Paul’s letter to the church at Rome. I had heard of a few of them, but some of them, I’ve never heard their name. Check this out….

⁷ Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews, who were in prison with me. They are highly respected among the apostles and became followers of Christ before I did. (Romans 16:7 NLT)

In the last part of this letter, Paul gives an extensive list of people who served and helped spread the gospel throughout the region. These people were behind the scenes serving well in order that the gospel would be taught and shared with others.

I’m good with serving behind the scenes. I don’t need a title or a spotlight to serve in the Kingdom of God. I’m ok being a water boy and bringing water to the teachers or leaders who should be out front. I’m also not afraid to speak up or speak out on behalf of Jesus. I will do so publicly or privately. He changed my life dramatically when He saved me. I’m happy to serve in His Kingdom wherever He wants me to serve.

Every time I see someone out front leading and teaching, I need to remember that there are lots of people behind the scenes serving. At our church there are people running video cameras, putting the words on the screens, changing the lights, mixing the music, mixing for the live-stream feed…. This list could be long.  I’m thankful for the people who serve behind the scenes so that the gospel can be presented clearly and even creatively. It is amazing what can be accomplished when it doesn’t matter who gets the credit!
