Battle Plan

I remember years ago watching the Gulf War on TV as it unfolded before the eyes of our nation. General Norman Schwarzkoph, Jr. gave briefings that explained how the US took the enemy by surprise.  He made it look rather simple even though it was series of complex maneuvers that fit into an overall battle plan.  It was a matter of days before the allies took out the dictator leader who was wreaking havoc upon Kuwait and destabilizing the region.

As I read this morning of David’s battles upon becoming king, I realized his strategy was even simpler than most. He simply asked God and God gave him the battle plan. God was David’s “Military Strategist”! Check this out….

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they mobilized all their forces to capture him. But David was told they were coming, so he marched out to meet them. The Philistines arrived and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim. 10 So David asked God, “Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?”

The Lord replied, “Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you.”

11 So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “God did it!” David exclaimed. “He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”). 12 The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, so David gave orders to burn them.(1 Chronicles 14:8-12 NLT)

David was very successful in battle when he applied this strategy. As he consulted the Lord, he would learn which battles to fight. He also learned the proper way to fight the battle. I’ve learned that if I seek the Lord, He will do the same for me in the battles or simply difficult situations that I face.  Some battles have way more at stake than others. Some battles seem super simple and minor at the time I’m facing them, and they turn out to have long term ripple effects in my life. The opposite is true as well – when I think the battle is simple and it is actually very complex because I overlooked important details.

I think I should approach each situation in my life seeking wisdom from the Lord. It can as simple as whether or not to stop and put fuel in my vehicle or complex like reaching out to an influential leader. I want the Lord to lead me and I want the Lord to give me insight and counsel in the simplest decisions facing me today. I serve as a trusted advisor in Real Estate and I want to seek the Lord in how to advise my clients and customers as well.  I believe that seeking the Lord’s counsel can set me up for success. Seeking the Lord’s counsel honors Him. His plans are ALWAYS better than my plans. His ideas are ALWAYS better than my ideas.

I want to first seek the Lord’s counsel before making any strategic moves for my day today as well as tomorrow and the balance of my life.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
