Banner of Love

In Solomon’s greatest song of love, He gives vivid descriptions of love between a man and a woman. To have such a reputation of wisdom beyond measure, I’m encouraged that this strong, wise and valiant king was also tender hearted and gentle and had a deep understanding of love. I believe Solomon is speaking straight up and straight forward about “eros” (Greek term) or romantic love between a man and a woman. Check this out….

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

     The Man Speaks

14 My beloved is like a dove hiding in the cracks of the rock,
in the secret places of the cliff.
    Show me your face,
and let me hear your voice.
    Your voice is sweet,
       and your face is lovely.
15 Catch the foxes for us—

the little foxes that ruin the vineyards

       while they are in blossom.
      The Woman Speaks
16 My lover is mine, and I am his.
       He feeds among the lilies
 17 until the day dawns
       and the shadows disappear.

   Turn, my lover.

Be like a gazelle or a young deer
on the mountain valleys. (Song of Solomon 2:14-17 NCV)

Woven throughout the verses of this beautiful love song is some imagery of God’s love for His kids. God is the Creator of all love. He teaches us how to love romantically as well as brotherly (philia) love. The most important love that the Lord displays is “Godly Love” (Agape). God loved us so much that He gave His Son for our sins. He is the ultimate Lover of all. Woven throughout the Song of Solomon is the imagery of Agape love from our Creator.  I feel loved by God today.

Pressing On!
