Authority
I learned as a kid to respect authority. There are people in authority who probably shouldn’t be in that position. I am sometimes disappointed by our elected officials who have authority to act. I’ve learned to respect the position they hold even if I don’t agree with their decision making. As I write this, I’m reminded of many conversations with officials with authority that are in authority. They are human. They make mistakes. I don’t believe that they make deliberate mistakes.
Authority can be misused and abused. There are multiple instances where that happens. There are times when people in authority get drunk on the power, and they misuse their position for their own agenda.
Jesus was unique in His teaching. It was different. It was powerful. It was relatively simple and straightforward. Check this out….
21 Jesus and his companions went to the town of Capernaum. When the Sabbath day came, he went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike the teachers of religious law. (Mark 1:21-22 NLT)
The content of Jesus’ teaching packed a punch and authority. His stories had a profound point with great insight. His teaching amazed the people.
There are teachers today that make the message more about themselves than about Jesus and the Truth that He introduced. When we speak of His Way and His Love – His authority over my life is what He wants. He wants my humble service, and He wants me to walk and live in His way. When I surrender to His authority, my life starts to connect with my purpose.
I want to live my life for the One Who created me. I want to live under His Authority the rest of my days here on earth – the land of the dying. I plan to live under His Authority in the land of eternity – the land of the living – forever.
His Authority over me here on earth calls for me to be salt and light to the world. I want to continue to respect the humans in authority while I’m here.
Pressing On!
