Aromatic Life
I love being able to smell things. If you’ve ever had a head cold or a sinus infection, you know what it’s like to lose your sense of smell. I’m smelling coffee this morning, as I do most every morning. I also love the smell of Irish Spring soap. I was recently introduced to a candle sold by Bath & Body Works called Mahogany Teakwood. It gives off a great aroma that I think is masculine and nice. I can hear some of my friends groaning because I like a Bath & Body Works candle! I could probably list a bunch of aromas in life that are not pleasant. My youngest son has a beagle hound dog that stinks like a dog. You can bath “Buddy” and he still smells like a dog. The list of things that smell bad could probably be longer than the list of good smells. Paul speaks to the Colossae church about living among unbelievers. I felt like he was speaking about living a life that smells nice. Check this out…
2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. 3 Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains. 4 Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should.
5 Live wisely among those who are not believers and make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. (Colossians 4:2-6 NLT)
My life is always being watched by others. I am nobody special, but I learned a long time ago that others watch what I’m doing. The older I get and the longer I live, it seems like more people watch. I think this happens to others. I watch other people and how they live. I really like watching others who are also followers of Jesus. I admire people who live for the Lord in their everyday life. I also admire people who lead from wherever they find themselves.
I do not want to become famous or known for anything other than a follower of Jesus who loves people and loves serving people. I learned both of those attributes from studying the Word of God and simply trying to live out my life according to His Word and His call upon my life.
I hope that when people meet me and get to know me, they will “smell” Jesus. I hope His aroma is all over me every day and in every way!
Pressing On!
