Answer To Prayer
There have been lots of times when the Lord answered my prayers a lot differently than how I prayed. When I pray for healing, I want the person healed and back to normal here on earth. When I pray for specific things or specific people, I believe that the Lord heals. I believe that He also knows my heart and the motive of my prayer. Quite frankly, my prayers are sometimes very selfish or even at times self-centered. I don’t think it’s wrong to pray for myself or for my family specifically, but I know that the Lord knows my heart. David writes some desperate prayers that are often self-centered, but he is pouring his heart out before God. This type of prayer reveals his heart and just how devoted he is to God. This prayer also reveals David’s utter dependence upon God. Check this out….
13 But I keep praying to you, Lord,
hoping this time you will show me favor.
In your unfailing love, O God,
answer my prayer with your sure salvation.
14 Rescue me from the mud;
don’t let me sink any deeper!
Save me from those who hate me,
and pull me from these deep waters.
15 Don’t let the floods overwhelm me,
or the deep waters swallow me,
or the pit of death devour me.
16 Answer my prayers, O Lord,
for your unfailing love is wonderful.
Take care of me,
for your mercy is so plentiful.(Psalm 69:13-16 NLT)
I pray because I believe God cares.
I pray because I believe God can help.
I pray because I believe in God’s favor.
I pray because I believe God is All Powerful.
I pray because I believe God has unlimited resources.
I pray because I believe God can do anything He pleases.
I pray because I have experienced first-hand the Power and the Presence of God. I know that He listens when His kids cry out to Him. I know He pays close attention to my heart. I know He cares about me. I know He knows what is best for me. I know that He is preparing me for heaven while I’m here on earth. I’ve learned that the Lord’s Will is ALWAYS best for me even when I don’t agree. I’ve learned that the Lord answers every prayer with “Yes”, “No” or “Not Yet”. He has poured out His favor on me and my family over the years and when I try to count the blessings, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and praise.
Prayer has changed me. Prayer has changed my relationship with God. Prayer is conversation with God, not just a wish list. His Wisdom and Insight often come during times of prayer and seeking His heart. His timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t fit my timing. I’m learning to keep praying for what I need or want until He says “No”. When I read His Word and notice His relationship with the men of the Old Testament and the New Testament, I so desire to walk with Him and talk with Him all day long. I sometimes just tell Him about my day instead of asking Him for anything in particular. Prayer enhances my relationship with God the Father at all times. I’ve learned much about His heart filled with grace and mercy via prayer.
