Amazing Grace
I have sung that old hymn “Amazing Grace” too many times to count. There have been times it’s just been a cool old song. There have been other times when I’ve wept as I sing, because in those moments, I was fully aware of my need for this grace, and it was absolutely amazing. Grace is a deep subject event though it’s fairly simple. When I have experienced a spiritual failure and realize my need for grace, it’s spot on what I need. When I feel like I’m living a strong spiritual journey, I may need it even more because that sort of pride is very destructive to my heart.
Paul teaches the church in Rome about grace. They seem to be trying to “work” their way into heaven by obedience to the law. It’s impossible to always obey the law. Check this out….
20 God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. 21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:20-21 NLT)
The law keeps score of my sin but Grace guarantees that I win in the end!
I don’t ever want to see Grace as cheap.
I don’t ever want to take Grace for granted.
I’m sitting here with profound gratitude for God’s grace that is covers me and restores my relationship with God. Jesus is the Deliverer of Grace. Check this out…
18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. (Romans 5:18 NLT)
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind but now I see
Was Grace that taught my heart to fear
And Grace, my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils and snares
We have already come
T’was Grace that brought us safe thus far
And Grace will lead us home
And Grace will lead us home
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see
(By John Newton)
I’m no longer a sinner trapped in my sin and stupid choices. I’ve been released from the hold of sin upon me because of the relentless and reckless love of God Who overwhelms with His Grace.
Pressing On!
