Alert!

I have times of the day when I’m more alert than others. My mind is sharper in the morning than early afternoon. I like to get up and move around in the afternoon because I get a bit sleepy. A 10-minute power nap works wonders for me.  I like the morning time when the day is just getting started. I feel refreshed from rest and ready to take on the day.

I don’t want to live my day-to-day life on “high alert” but I also don’t want to be in a stupor either. I want to pay close attention to the details of my life.

Jesus is telling His disciples about some of the things that are coming. He reminds them to be attentive and alert. Check this out….

32 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. 33 And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!

34 “The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. 35 You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. 36 Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. 37 I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!” (Mark 13:32-37 NLT)

I think the advice that Jesus gives His followers is good for me today. I try not to worry about when He’s coming back – I just believe that He is. I’m going to live each day on alert for Him to come.  It’s easy to hear about things that are just on the horizon that some believe is about to happen. I try hard to not live in fear of the future or the unknown. I believe that the Lord holds the future and I trust Him with it. I do want to watch and be attentive to the world around me. I trust that the Lord is still in charge. I pray for His favor. I pray for His wisdom. I pray for His insight. I pray for His direction. I believe if I’m alert and watching for Him, I can see His hand upon my life and upon my life’s journey. As I read His Word, my worries give way to faith. As I read His Word, I grow in my trust of His timing. My role is to watch and be alert. My role is to be obedient to Him leading me.

Pressing On!
