Acknowledge
This word jumped off the page of a very familiar passage from Psalms this morning. This word has multiple, but similar meanings. Acknowledge means to admit being real or true; recognize the existence, truth or fact of. It also means to show or express recognition or realization of or to recognize the authority, validity of claims of a person. (dictionary.com) I use acknowledge in every day conversation as I listen to another person. I want them to know that I’m listening. If they hold a position of leadership, then I acknowledge their leadership or even their authority that comes with their position.
The Psalmist invites worship and praise of God but adds this word as part of our worship. Check this out….
1 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
3 Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation. (Psalm 100:1-5 NLT)
I can start my day with perspective by acknowledging the Lord is God. I acknowledge His Power and His Presence in me. I also acknowledge that without Him in my life, I am nothing.
When I sings songs of praise and worship, I’m acknowledging Him for Who He is and all that He is doing inside my soul and all over the planet. He loves hearing my heart sing. He loves it when I acknowledge Him for all that He’s doing and has done in my life. I have much to be thankful for and I have a list. I think it’s important to go over that list again and again each day.
An old song that came to mind is Shout To The Lord performed by Chris Tomlin nearly 10 years ago.
Pressing On!
