Accomplishment

I was talking with a good friend about how yard work can be very fulfilling. At the end of a relatively short period of time, I can see a finished product. When I was in ministry, I was simply sowing seeds of the gospel in the lives of young people. There were times, the result would be obvious. At other times it was years before seeing the life change.  In fact, I still occasionally see someone from my youth group, and they are walking out their faith in God. It may have been a seed I was sowing, or it could be a family member or co-worker who invested in them.

I love looking back on accomplishments. Finishing a semester in school. Earning a degree or designation are an accomplishment. I’m good with celebrating accomplishments, because it gives some motivation as I move toward another such accomplishment.

Nehemiah was the motivational leader who answered the call of God upon his heart to go build the wall of Jerusalem. He sought help and resources from the king of Persia. He solicited volunteers from every walk of life. There was opposition to the project for sure. The wall was built in 52 days!! That was a great accomplishment. Check this out….

15 So on October 2 the wall was finished—just fifty-two days after we had begun. 16 When our enemies and the surrounding nations heard about it, they were frightened and humiliated. They realized this work had been done with the help of our God. (Nehemiah 6:15-16 NLT)

I love that last line – “they realized that the work had been done with the help of our God.”  I think that all my accomplishments have come with the help of God. Nothing I have done, said or even dreamed of doing would be possible without the help of God.

The Lord helps me wake each morning.

The Lord provides for me each day.

The Lord is Presence with me each day.

The Lord guides my thought processes IF I give Him room to move in there.

The Lord listens to me when I pray.

The Lord stirs my soul whenever He wants.

I have given the Lord open access to my heart; to my family; to my work; to my friends. He is the Giver, Shaker and Maker of any accomplishment that I’m attached to. I can do nothing without Him, but I can do anything with Him.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
