A Whisper of His Power

There are times when it’s hard to grasp the power that one individual has over another. It can be obvious when I see an abusive relationship where one person is clearly wielding power over the other. It can be physical power, emotional power, or both.

As I read Job’s response to his friend Bildad, I was struck by his perspective. In all of Job’s suffering, He seems to hold on to perspective. He seemed to step his toe on the line of disrespect without going over. He is frustrated with God. He is suffering and struggling, but he doesn’t curse God. In fact, he declares some of God’s attributes.

He declares the Presence of God.

He declares the Power of God.

He declares the Purpose of God.

He declares the Creativity of God.

He declares the Beauty of God

I think Job has great clarity of the Power and the Presence of God – even in his suffering. He closes strong He describes the Lord.  Check this out…..

¹⁴ These are just the beginning of all that he does,
    merely a whisper of his power.
    Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?” (Job 26:14 NLT)

That descriptive term “whisper of His Power” jumped in my lap. I can’t begin to comprehend the full power of God. I simply get a whisper and that is enough.  If I could make a list of the attributes of God – they would be merely a “whisper” of all He is. When I even try to think of the magnitude, majesty, breadth and height of God, my mind is blown. In all His Presence and Power – He wants to know me. He wants to live in me. He wants to make a difference in the lives of others through me.  I am humbled by His Presence in me. I’m thankful for the perspective He gives me today and every day.
