A Special Song
I love songs. I love music. Music and lyrics are a powerful force in our world. I can remember where I was and what I was doing from years ago when some songs come on the air. Some of those memories are good and some of them not so much. I like many styles and multiple genres of music. I find that a good song is a good combination of lyric and music.
So Moses writes a song and it’s called “The Song of Moses”. It was a long narrative. He was close to the end of his life because God had told him so. He this song and opens with praise and moves into instruction and historical context. I was moved by the first few lines of this song. Check this out….
1 “Listen, O heavens, and I will speak!
Hear, O earth, the words that I say!
2 Let my teaching fall on you like rain;
let my speech settle like dew.
Let my words fall like rain on tender grass,
like gentle showers on young plants.
3 I will proclaim the name of the Lord;
how glorious is our God!
4 He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect.
Everything he does is just and fair.
He is a faithful God who does no wrong;
how just and upright he is! (Deuteronomy 32:1-4 NLT)
I love songs that attempt to describe the Lord. We can certainly tell the things He does and is doing in our lives. We can also write songs that describe our life before we met Him and after we met Him. Music and songs have a way of communication that profoundly different than just one without the other. Music and lyric create a moving experience and goes way beyond just listening or even the listener. I think Moses’ song could have included lyrics like this:
Way maker
Miracle worker
Promise keeper
Light in the darkness
My God
That is who you are
(written by Sinach – Osinachi Kalu)
I’ve learned about how God is The Waymaker because His Word speaks of it throughout the pages. I’m going to look for songs that speak into my heart – move my heart – invite me to see His Heart.
Pressing On!
