A Sinner Like Me
When we were helping my son build his “Barndominum” (aka Barndo) last year, I listened to a lot of music. One of my favorites was the music of Eric Church, a Country artist who writes some strong lyrical content. He wrote and recorded a song called “Sinners Like Me”. I think it’s important to be brutally honest with where I stand when I stand before the Lord – I’m a sinner. I’m also saved by His Amazing Grace.
On the day I die
I know where I’m gonna go
Me and Jesus got that part worked out
I’ll wait at the gates til His face I see
And stand in a long line of sinners like me
I’ll stand in a long line of sinners like me
Luke opens one of my favorite chapters in his gospel with a welcoming word. This is the same chapter that has the story of the Loving Father (aka The Prodigal Son). Check this out…
1Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach.2 This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!(Luke 15:1-2 NLT)
I think it’s important to note that I’m a sinner. I left a “period” behind that on purpose. That is a stand-alone fact. There is more to this story. Jesus has saved this sinner repeatedly.
He is still teaching this sinner.
He is still molding my heart.
He is still forgiving me.
He is still restoring me.
He is still loving me.
I want to keep learning from Him.
I want to keep moving toward Him.
I want His Spirit in me every day.
I want to wear His name (Christian) and have Him smiling upon me.
I can never become good enough to deserve His Love.
I can never do enough to deserve His Forgiveness.
I know who I am and I know Who He is. Please note what He has done for me, He can do for everyone. It’s a long line of sinners, but one worth standing in to see Jesus face to face.
Pressing On!
