A Review
It is sometimes helpful to review what I did last week, last month and even last year. I sometimes reflect on my last ten years and it shows the progress I’ve made in certain areas and the places I’m stuck in others. I think this reflection is helpful in life, in business and in relationships as well. (My wife and I are reflecting on 25 years of marriage this year!)
Joshua has finished conquering the land that God has promised, and he pens a whole chapter giving the names of the kings and territories defeated. Check this out….
7 The following is a list of the kings that Joshua and the Israelite armies defeated on the west side of the Jordan, from Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, which leads up to Seir. (This list was really long.)
In all, thirty-one kings were defeated. (Joshua 12:7,24b NLT)
Moses took out two kings east of the Jordan, so that made 33 kings and territories that they conquered – with the Lord’s help. I don’t want to skip over that last line. The Lords help was actually the driving force and the Power behind and before the Israelite army.
I think reflection is a healthy thing, but I don’t think I should spend a ton of time in the past. My past behavior does predict my future. I think looking back at the past should be a fairly quick look. I like to think of it like a rear-view mirror in my car – If I stare at the rear-view mirror too long, I might hit a tree or something right in front of me.
When I look back and reflect all that the Lord has done in my life and done for me – I’m humbled and grateful. I think this is a proper review of my journey. My personal review reminds me of what a difference the Presence of the Lord makes in my journey.
Pressing On!
