A Name

Name tag blank stickers. The dictionary says it’s a “word or set of words by which a person, animal, place or thing is known, addressed, or referred to”. My name is important to me. I think a “name” can also refer to the reputation. For example, I want my family to have a good name in the community. I love the name “Mercy” and “Grace”. I also love Bill & Tom. The Proverb writer says it this way:

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. (Proverbs 22:1 NIV)

I think my name here on earth is important but there are others who have the same name. There is an actor in California by the same name as me. There is probably another REALTOR by that name as well. There is ONLY ONE me. I am uniquely me and while others may have the same name, they are not me. The Lord lives in me and His Presence in me changes the significance of my name. Check this out…

I will give them an everlasting name
    that will endure for ever.
6 And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord
    to minister to him,
to love the name of the Lord,
    and to be his servants,
all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it
and who hold fast to my covenant –
7 these I will bring to my holy mountain
and give them joy in my house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and sacrifices
    will be accepted on my altar;
for my house will be called
a house of prayer for all nations.’ (Isaiah 56:5b-7 NIV)

I’m thankful for the Name Above All Names. I’m thankful that the Creator of all I see and know wants to give me an everlasting name. I want to be known as His kid. My biological parents want me to wear His name. They want me to be known more for His name than for the name they gave me. His Name is all over me. I’m thankful to be known as the Lord’s kid.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
