A Good Start

I love seeing small children learn and grow. It’s like every day is a new adventure. They are discovering, experimenting, testing and growing every day. They will often test the limits and boundaries set forth by their parents as well as natural boundaries. As the child grows, he/she observes their parents and adopts many habits and mannerisms of their parents. It’s actually comical at times. I know that I’ve seen things in my kids that I know that they got from observing or simply growing up around me.

As the kids mature and grow into adults they gain more and more responsibility. Until eventually, they are totally responsible for their own decisions and their own family and the cycle starts again. They must transition from a faith of their parents to a faith of their own. They must decide what they believe about God and a myriad of other lifestyle decisions. I believe a good place to start is to pray.

The people left in Judah after the Babylonian invasion began wondering what is next and what should they do. Check this out….

1Then all the army officers, including Johanan son of Kareah and Jezaniah[a]son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest approachedJeremiah the prophet and said to him, “Please hear our petition and pray to the Lord your God for this entire remnant. For as you now see, though we were once many, now only a few are left. Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.” (Jeremiah 42:1-3 NLT)

A good start in every situation is to pray and ask the Lord for wisdom and insight. He is not surprised by anything that happens to me, even though I might be shocked and surprised. He understands. He gives good counsel and direction. I should “pray about everything and worry about nothing”. (This is easier said than done.)

Talking to God about everything is an excellent habit to form. He can settle my soul when I’m stressed or worried. Sometimes my worries show and at other times, they are hidden beneath a smile or “we’re all good”.

I want to begin each day asking the Lord where to go and what to do. I believe He will lead and direct my path if I will simply ask and then listen to Him and walk in obedience.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
