A Good Branch
Most family trees have some good branches and some “not so good” branches. I’m not sure who coined the phrase that “you can’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends.” I’ve always considered myself blessed to have a great family and actually be friends with my family.
The people of Israel have had some troubled times. They are often spoken of as a family, even though they are actually a nation. At one time they were divided into the northern kingdom and southern kingdom. God still spoke of them as a family. Jeremiah has the task of speaking to them about the punishment that is coming. Most of his message is negative. Tucked inside that message of destruction is a message of hope. Check this out….
5 “The days are coming,” says the Lord, “when I will raise up a good branch in David’s family. He will be a king who will rule in a wise way; he will do what is fair and right in the land. 6 In his time Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety. This will be his name: The Lord Does What Is Right (Jeremiah 23:5-6 NCV)The Lord ALWAYS has a plan for His people. He ALWAYS has a plan for me. I believe that He will save the day even when it looks like all is lost. He is the “GOOD BRANCH” in my family tree! He ALWAYS does what is right. He ALWAYS listens to me. He is ALWAYS on time. I’d be lost without Him. I would be hopeless without Him. I’m so grateful for His Presence in my life!
Pressing On! Dwayne
