Honored

I sometime gush with embarrassment when someone compliments me. I find myself not knowing what to say. I’ve learned over the years to simply say “Thank You” or “Thanks” because otherwise I’m stripping of the blessing of expressing gratitude. The problem is that I know me. I’m a flawed man. I make mistakes and I am a sinner. I don’t measure up to who I want to be and become. I am still a work in progress. With the help of Jesus living in me, I can be a blessing to others. The “secret sauce” is Jesus living in me and working through everything I do and wherever I go.

I am still processing the faithfulness of this guy Mordecai, Queen Esther’s uncle. He adopted young Esther when her parents died. He took her into his home and raised her as his own daughter. When the whole drama was over and the Jewish population was spared from the evil plot of Haman, Mordecai was promoted. His character continued to shine through even when given a promotion and put in a powerful position. Check this out….

1King Xerxes imposed a tribute throughout his empire, even to the distant coastlands. His great achievements and the full account of the greatness of Mordecai, whom the king had promoted, are recorded in The Book of the History of the Kings of Media and Persia. Mordecai the Jew became the prime minister, with authority next to that of King Xerxes himself. He was very great among the Jews, who held him in high esteem, because he continued to work for the good of his people and to speak up for the welfare of all their descendants. (Esther 10:1-3 NLT)

Even though God is not mentioned by name in the book of Esther, His Presence is quite obvious in the life of Mordecai & his niece, Queen Esther.  Mordecai’s character and consistent behavior scream out of his deep faith in God.

There is something positive about a faithful and consistent walk with the Lord. There are tremendous pressures from our culture and the prince of darkness to steer away from a consistent walk with the Lord.  The things I do today immediately become part of my past, but they have a way of always showing up in my future.  The things I say today matter. The things I do today matter.

I want my consistent walk with the Lord to bring honor to Him.  I’m not walking with Him to be noticed by others. He has called me to this journey. He has saved my soul. He is with me through the victories and the valleys of struggle.  If I am ever honored in any way, shape or form, it’s because of Jesus living in me and shaping my heart, my temperament and my character.  This story of Esther and her Uncle Mordecai simply inspired me to be consistent in my faithful walk with the Lord.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
