Leave The Light On
When my kids were younger, they would often leave the light in a room on when no one needed it any longer. I became known as the “electricity sheriff” as I would get up and turn out lights throughout the house. I knew the amount of the electricity bill, because I had to pay it. I am very thankful for electricity and light that we have in the evenings. Now that the time has changed and we are headed into winter, the days are getting shorter so having light in the evening and morning is very helpful. One of the corniest tag lines (but memorable) came from Motel 6 – “we’ll leave the light on for you”! I have security lights outside. I have a night lights when my grands are sleeping over. In a crazy way, I always have lights on now.
The Lord gave instructions to Moses and all the people that they were to help supply oil to the priests so that they could keep the lampstand burning. Check this out….
1The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually. 3 This is the lampstand that stands in the Tabernacle, in front of the inner curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant. Aaron must keep the lamps burning in the Lord’s presence all night. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation. 4 Aaron and the priests must tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand continually in the Lord’s presence. (Leviticus 24:1-4 NLT)
I’m not completely confident in the reason for the “always burning” lampstand. The Lord doesn’t do things by accident. I think that it might symbolize the constant and consistent Presence of God with His People.
There Is Another In The Fire
© 2018 Hillsong Music Publishing by Chris Davenport & Joel Houston
There’s a grace when the heart is under fire
Another way when the walls are closing in
And when I look at the space between
Where I used to be and this reckoning
I know I will never be alone
CHORUS 1: There was another in the fire Standing next to me
There was another in the waters Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding Of how I’ve been set free
There is a cross that bears the burden Where another died for me
All my debt left for dead beneath the waters I’m no longer a slave to my sin anymore
And should I fall in the space between What remains of me and this reckoning
Either way I won’t bow To the things of this world
And I know I will never be alone
CHORUS 2: There is another in the fire Standing next to me
There is another in the waters Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding What power set me free
There is a grave that holds no body And now that power lives in me
BRIDGE: And I can see the light in the darkness As the darkness bows to Him
I can hear the roar in the heavens As the space between wears thin
I can feel the ground shake beneath us As the prison walls cave in
Nothing stands between us
VERSE 3: There is no other name But the Name that is Jesus
He who was and still is and will be through it all
So come what may in the space between All the things unseen and this reckoning I know I will never be alone
CHORUS 3: There’ll be another in the fire Standing next to me
There’ll be another in the waters Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding How good You’ve been to me
I’ll count the joy come every battle ‘Cause I know that’s where You’ll be
I am never alone as long as I walk in step with The Light of The World – Jesus. Check this out….
105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105 NLT)
12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” (John 8:12 NLT)
Pressing On!
