Generational Faith
I grew up going to church twice on Sunday and also on Wednesday nights for Bible Study. My parents believed in God and walked out their faith in our home and at their work place. They were consistent and faithful following the Lord. I remember when I did stupid stuff that went against my faith, they were steady. Their parents were also believers. I have a strong heritage of faith that has been passed down through generations. It is cool to think about my children living out their faith for years to come and their children and their children’s children pass on their faith in God.
I was reminded of the value of generational faith when the Lord spoke to Isaac. Check this out….
2 The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt, but do as I tell you. 3 Live here as a foreigner in this land, and I will be with you and bless you. I hereby confirm that I will give all these lands to you and your descendants, just as I solemnly promised Abraham, your father. 4 I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed. 5 I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions.” 6 So Isaac stayed in Gerar. (Genesis 26:2-6 NLT)
I want to be obedient to the Lord so that His blessings are all over my life and the lives of my children. I am so thankful for the blessings He has poured out on me. He has walked with me through the valley of the shadow of death and I know He will do it again. His Presence motivates me to love as He loves and serve as He serves.
I believe that there are people of deep faith who the Lord blessed in spite of a generational faith gap. The Lord can be found by everyone. He doesn’t hide Himself. He willingly dwells inside the hearts of those who welcome Him. It sounds really simple, because it is simple. I see my faith as a long journey of daily steps of following the Lord. When I stumble, He helps me back up. When I stray off the path, He restores me to the pursuit. He is so patient and so kind. The Lord has made Himself so magnetic. I don’t want to ever be without Him. I want His Presence to shine in me all the days of my life. I want others, who barely know me, to notice the Lord in my life. I would love for others to investigate Him and welcome Him into their life.
My plan is to follow the Lord today and every day so that future generations will know of His love, His Presence and His Promise of eternal life.
Pressing On!
