A Bad Taste In My Mouth
I love the taste of good food. You can tell by looking at me that I haven’t missed many meals. LOL! A couple of my favorite lunch places is The Mustard Seed at City Station and The Highland Deli. Our town has some amazing eateries in the downtown area. I enjoy a good piece of steak or a grilled chicken. My apologies to all the people who love fish – I’m just not a fan. I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about how much I love sweet stuff – like candy, cakes, ice-cream and such. I will also try some new foods occasionally, but I generally stay with the one that I know that I like.
Jeremiah is given a vision by the Lord and it becomes an “object lesson” of sorts. Check this out….
I saw two baskets of figs placed in front of the Lord’s Temple in Jerusalem. 2 One basket was filled with fresh, ripe figs, while the other was filled with bad figs that were too rotten to eat.
3 Then the Lord said to me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?”
I replied, “Figs, some very good and some very bad, too rotten to eat.”
4 Then the Lord gave me this message: 5 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: The good figs represent the exiles I sent from Judah to the land of the Babylonians. 6 I will watch over and care for them, and I will bring them back here again. I will build them up and not tear them down. I will plant them and not uproot them. 7 I will give them hearts that recognize me as the Lord. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me wholeheartedly.(Jeremiah 24:1b-7 NLT)
The rest of the story is that the evil wicked people are the rotten figs that are ruined. The Lord makes is clear that there are evil people and good people.
I’ve dealt with people who were trying to “pull a fast one” and it simply put a “bad taste in my mouth”, although the deal had nothing to do with food. It’s a saying that describes dishonorable behavior.
I want my life to put a good taste in the Lord’s mouth.
I want my life to be a sweet-smelling fragrance to the Lord.
I want the Lord’s Presence to be all over my life.
I want Him to build me up.
I want Him to grow me.
I want Him to watch over my life.
I want my heart to always recognize Him.
I want every activity of my life to be honorable and tasteful to the Lord and certainly to others I encounter every day.
Pressing On!
