The Road Home
I really like coming home. I live out in the country in a modest home that we built 23 years ago. We love our home. We recently did some remodeling and some improvements and now my wife and I are “empty nesters”. We recently traveled to Tennessee to hang with our family and love on the grands. When I start home, I’m ready to already be there. I struggle to not drive too fast because it seems the closer I get to home, the faster I drive. The road home is full of others traveling too.
Isaiah is speaking of a time when God’s people who were exiled will head home. He speaks of the celebration that will happen and their new name. There is rest and rejuvenation at home. I see home as a safe place to be. Check this out…..
10 Pass through, pass through the gates!
Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway!
Remove the stones.
Raise a banner for the nations.
11 The Lord has made proclamation
to the ends of the earth:
“Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your Savior comes!
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.’”
12 They will be called the Holy People,
the Redeemed of the Lord;
and you will be called Sought After,
the City No Longer Deserted.(Isaiah 62:10-12 NLT)
I want the road home to be smooth.
I want the road home to be direct.
I want the road home to be easy.
The road home isn’t always predictable or easy. It is often filled with speed bumps and pot holes. The road home is sometime curvy with peaks and valleys. The Lord walks with me on the way home. He helps me with the curves, bumps and the hills. He doesn’t always “feel” close, but He is close. He knows the directions to home from anywhere. He created “home” for me.
Pressing On!
