Calm & Quiet

When I think of these two words, it usually describes my morning time with the Lord. I like to get up before the rest of the family and soak in some calm and quiet. Often it helps give me perspective on my day that may very well be chaotic and crazy.  I’ve found that spending time with the Lord to begin my day, usually helps me to keep the proper perspective.  This Psalm is about perspective. Check this out…

 1 Lord, my heart is not proud;
       I don’t look down on others.
    I don’t do great things,
       and I can’t do miracles.
 2 But I am calm and quiet,
       like a baby with its mother.
       I am at peace, like a baby with its mother.
 3 People of Israel, put your hope in the Lord
       now and forever. (Psalm 131:1-3 NCV)

Being calm and quiet is about trust. My world is hardly ever calm and quiet, but I’ve learned to be calm and quiet in spite of what all is happening around me.  I love the picture of a baby with his mother. The baby can be so upset about pretty much anything and the one person who can usually bring calm and quiet to the child is the mother.  The Lord wants me to trust like that. He wants me to come into His presence and find comfort and peace. Calm and quiet are closely related to comfort and peace.  I’m pitching my tent right here in the presence of God where there is calm, quiet, comfort and peace!
