Wisdom Is Foundational
I remember the process of building my home that I’ve lived in for the past 23 years like it was yesterday. The trees were cleared, and the pad was graded out. The footers were dug. Steel was used in the concrete floor of the basement and in the footers to tie in the concrete walls of the basement. This was simply the foundation. My house was then “stick built” upon this foundation. I’ve since showed houses with faulty foundations. Fixing a foundation after the house is built is not impossible, but it can be expensive and challenging. I have learned over the years that if there is a foundation problem with the house, it affects the whole house. The same is true in my personal life. I must learn the value of wisdom and personal growth to keep my life moving forward. I believe wisdom is foundational to a good, healthy life.
Dave Ramsey has made a fortune teaching common sense wisdom regarding money. I can say for sure that it is not common practice. I had to make some major changes in how I handled money. I give Dave credit for saying things in a way that connected with me. I feel much wiser in my management of money.
Solomon taught that wisdom is foundational to everything in life. I believe wisdom from God can set me up for a godly life. Check this out….
10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.
Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
11 Wisdom will multiply your days
and add years to your life.
12 If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit.
If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.
6 Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live;
learn to use good judgment.”
7 Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return.
Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.
8 So don’t bother correcting mockers;
they will only hate you.
But correct the wise,
and they will love you.
9 Instruct the wise,
and they will be even wiser.
Teach the righteous,
and they will learn even more.(Proverbs 9:10-12; 6-9 NLT)
I want to live today and every day with my ears and eyes open and seeking wisdom. It is not scarce, but it is sometimes not in the obvious places that I look. I find great wisdom and teaching in scripture. I find great wisdom in reading. I find great wisdom in listening. I don’t think I will ever receive enough wisdom. I believe if I stop learning and growing, then I start dying or sliding in the wrong direction.
I want to grow in wisdom and understanding every day of my life. I don’t want to get too old to learn wisdom or too stubborn to let wisdom direct my steps. I want to keep my pride in check and learn all I can for as long as I can. I believe that wisdom can multiply my days and multiply my influence on everyone I meet.
Pressing On!
