Wired For Worship
I believe that all human beings worship something or someone. There are concert goers who “worship” the star that they are seeing perform. They are totally enamored with them and their music. There are others who worship and adore famous people. It can be movie stars or politicians and they are awestruck to be in their presence. It is often true with super star athletes as well. I want what I want, and who I want, whenever I want. This is straight up a self-serving attitude. Jesus clearly taught a different way. I was actually wired to worship God. This awestruck, enamored way of looking at famous people is really how I should be in the Presence of God. My outward posture should reflect the inner Presence of God in my heart.
John, in the Revelation saw some incredible sights beyond description. He saw some heavenly worship that was awe-inspiring. He saw things that were coming too. He gives us a heads up for sure. Check this out…
6 And I saw another angel flying through the sky, carrying the eternal Good News to proclaim to the people who belong to this world—to every nation, tribe, language, and people. 7 “Fear God,” he shouted. “Give glory to him. For the time has come when he will sit as judge. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all the springs of water.”
12 This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and maintaining their faith in Jesus.
13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!”(Revelation 14:6-7,12-13 NLT)
I am reminded that this life here on earth is simply a pre-lude to the “big dance” of eternal life. I don’t want to get so distracted and attracted to this life that I miss the point. My life can be amazing and abundant lived out with deep faith in the Lord while I’m here. My life has deep meaning. My faith can grow deeper as I walk out my faith with Him.
When I die, I want to die in the Lord. I want those who remember my life and my influence on this earth to have seen Jesus clearly in my life. I want them to become curious to know Him and investigate Him further. His Presence is forever changing me. It doesn’t mean I’m free from sin and temptation. It does mean that He has given me grace with no quota. His mercies are new each morning and His Presence refreshes my soul daily. I want to simply keep walking out my faith in Jesus, the Son of God, every day of my life.
Pressing On!
