If You Can Live With It…

Hand giving moneyI have been stung financially a few times over the years. I’m definitely wiser and more cautious in dealing with people regarding money. Sometimes you see a whole new side of people when it comes to dealing with money. If after confrontation, I couldn’t get the issue resolved, it would often come down to: “If you can live with it, I can live without it”. I am certainly not perfect and I’ve made some colossal mistakes dealing with money over the years. I can say that I’ve never intentionally tried to hurt someone financially or take from them.

Zechariah was foretelling an event where the Lord was going to punish His people. After serving among them and telling them what is coming, the prophet does something a bit unusual. Check this out…

12 I told them, ‘If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.’ So they paid me thirty pieces of silver.

13 And the Lord said to me, ‘Throw it to the potter’– the handsome price at which they valued me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the house of the Lord. (Zechariah 11:12-13 NIV)

I found it interesting that they paid him 30 pieces of silver – the exact amount give to Judas to betray Jesus. Then it’s also interesting that the Lord told him to “throw it to the potter” – Judas hanged himself in a potters field after realizing what He had done to Jesus.

Life isn’t all about money, although money does help make life work more smoothly. It seems like most everything costs money or requires money to maintain or exist. The love and the pursuit of money is where mistakes are made and if I’m not careful I will “step on others” to get what I want. I believe that the Lord detests this sort of behavior. I’m still learning to trust Him with His Provision for me and even when I don’t have what I want, I still trust Him. He can help me live without it and He knows who needs it more than me.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
