Deep Roots
I’m certainly not a horticulturalist, but I do know a few things about plants. The plants rely on their root system to bring much needed water and nutrients from the soil to them. They also like the presence of the sun and the environment. Their root system is pretty critical to the plant/tree surviving.
My heart is much like a tree. The “roots” of my heart need to bring the very Spirit of God into my everyday, walking around life. My heart will flourish if it is rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Spirit/Presence of God. Check out what the Lord speaks through Jeremiah….
5 This is what the Lord says:
“Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.
6 That person will be like a bush in the wastelands;
they will not see prosperity when it comes.
They will dwell in the parched places of the desert,
in a salt land where no one lives.
7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
9 The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
10 “I the Lord search the heart
and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.” (Jeremiah 17:5-10 NIV)
I really want to begin each day with the Lord speaking deeply into my heart. I want Him to keep speaking into me throughout the day. I want to seek Him. I want to Him to nourish my heart and the grow my heart to be like His. I want to have deep roots in Him so that no matter what the “weather”/environment is doing around me – I’m grounded and connected directly to Him. He is the source of everything I need to grow and flourish as His Kid.
Pressing On!
