Compliment – My Beloved
I have always felt a bit awkward when someone is paying me a compliment. I should be grateful (and I am), but I’m not great at receiving praise and gratitude. I think the problem is that I know me and I sometimes don’t like myself. I have thoughts that I hate. I do things I shouldn’t do and go places I shouldn’t go. I really want to be complimented by the Lord. I’m actually shooting for the day when He says, “Well Done!” That will be the biggest compliment of all.
Solomon wrote Song of Solomon that was about the relationship between a “beloved” and his “sister/bride”. The bride compliments her beloved. Check this out…
10 My beloved is radiant and ruddy, outstanding among ten thousand. 11 His head is purest gold; his hair is wavy and black as a raven. 12 His eyes are like doves by the water streams, washed in milk, mounted like jewels. 16 His mouth is sweetness itself; he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, this is my friend, daughters of Jerusalem. (Song of Solomon 5:10-12,16 NIV)
I can see the guys chest poking out as he receives these complimentary description words. I think if this book is an allegory and the Lord compliments me like that I might just have my head swell to the point I can’t get through the door. I do like it when my wife compliments me as her husband and as a Dad. I think my biggest compliment that I desire is the Lord to affirm and compliment.
David Crowder wrote a song called “My Beloved” and I love the content because I know that the Lord loves me deeply. Check this out…
