Object Lessons
I remember when I was a young student pastor I used to teach with object lessons. One of my favorites was using Flash Paper to list out our sins and mistakes on it. Then after speaking about God’s forgiveness and grace, I would light the paper with a match. The Flash Paper would become a ball of fire and disappear without ash or soot instantly. It was a great object lesson.
Ezekiel was asked by God to warn the people of impending capture of the city and destruction of the city. Check this out….
17 The Lord spoke his word to me, saying: 18 “Human, tremble as you eat your food, and shake with fear as you drink your water. 19 Then say to the people of the land: ‘This is what the Lord God says about the people who live in Jerusalem in the land of Israel: They will eat their food with fear and drink their water in shock, because their land will be stripped bare because of the violence of the people who live in it. 20 The cities where people live will become ruins, and the land will become empty. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” (Ezekiel 12:17-20 NCV)
Ezekiel became a human object lesson to teach the people what was coming. I believe that object lessons can teach deep truth. I believe the truth can grasped by diligent reading and allowing the Holy Spirit to explain. I think it’s my role to dig deep and study the deep things of God and He will reveal more of himself to me through simple object lessons and His Spirit speaking into me. I want to tune my eyes and ears to hear and see Him at work.
