Discernment

This is an important concept when meandering through life. This is an important character quality that should be more present than it is. Discernment is simply the “ability to judge well”. It is also “perception in the absent of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual direction and understanding.” I am drawn to people of discernment because they think before they act. They display a level of wisdom that is somewhat absent from out culture.  Jeremiah’s message was not considered truth to the people he was addressing, because a lack of discernment. There are times when I can’t believe the ignorance of the people of Judah. How many times does God need to speak before they listen?  I don’t stay in that place long without looking inside my heart at my own disobedience and ignorance. The Lord’s Word is so clear and yet I still ignore and disobey. I pray often for a discerning heart. I want to know the right thing to do when the decision is not clear. I believe that the Holy Spirit can whisper (or shout) ideas in to my life that are totally of the Lord, IF I will just listen. I believe discernment requires that my ears be tuned into the Presence of the Holy Spirit. God is the Author of Discernment and I believe it’s a gift that He wants to give me.
