Object Lesson & Agenda

I love object lessons – They are often so simple, yet teach a profound truth. I guess I’m somewhat simple minded and love to visualize in order to learn. Jeremiah is asked by God to teach the people of Judah with an object lesson. I love how God tells Jeremiah to do something that seemed to be crazy and weird, but Jeremiah did it anyway. Jeremiah’s obedience is another good lesson for me.  Check this out….

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

 1This is what the Lord said to me: “Go and buy a linen belt and put it around your waist. Don’t let the belt get wet.”  2 So I bought a linen belt, just as the Lord told me, and put it around my waist. 3 Then the Lord spoke his word to me a second time: 4 “Take the belt you bought and are wearing, and go to Perath. Hide the belt there in a crack in the rocks.” 5 So I went to Perath and hid the belt there, just as the Lord told me.
6 Many days later the Lord said to me, “Now go to Perath and get the belt I told you to hide there.” 7 So I went to Perath and dug up the belt and took it from where I had hidden it. But now it was ruined; it was good for nothing.
8 Then the Lord spoke his word to me. 9 This is what the Lord said: “In the same way I will ruin the pride of the people of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. 10 These evil people refuse to listen to my warnings. They stubbornly do only what they want to do, and they follow other gods to serve and worship them. So they will become like this linen belt—good for nothing. 11 As a belt is wrapped tightly around a person’s waist, I wrapped the families of Israel and Judah around me,” says the Lord. “I did that so they would be my people and bring fame, praise, and honor to me. But my people would not listen. (Jeremiah 13:1-11 NCV)

 God created me to His kid. He wants to love and cherish me. He wants to protect me. He wants to shape my character to His. He wants people to notice Him in me. His agenda is not secret or hidden. He lays it out clearly pretty often throughout His Word.  He even gives me object lessons to teach me how He operates and just how much He loves me. I’ve learned a lot about the Father’s love by being a Dad myself. I love to see my kids live out things that I’ve tried to teach them. I love them without condition – like the Lord loves me. I love the Lord and I’m grateful to Him for His patience with me as I bend my stubborn will to His agenda and His will.  I don’t want Him to take the belt that He’s using to hold me tight, to discipline me with. I’ve had enough of those over the years! J
