Amazing Things
When I take a moment to reflect on my journey there is one word that comes to mind – Amazing. I like this word because I find it hard to describe what it means for me. The word amazing carries with it an element of surprise and awe. It brings blessing and hope. I need all of those. Amazing is very much a characteristic of God. He is Amazing and He does amazing things. Check this out…
3 You have done amazing things we did not expect. You came down, and the mountains trembled before you. 4 From long ago no one has ever heard of a God like you. No one has ever seen a God besides you, who helps the people who trust you. 5 You help those who enjoy doing good, who remember how you want them to live. But you were angry because we sinned. For a long time we disobeyed, so how can we be saved? 6 All of us are dirty with sin. All the right things we have done are like filthy pieces of cloth. All of us are like dead leaves, and our sins, like the wind, have carried us away. (Isaiah 64:3-6 NCV)I do not deserve to have fellowship with the Lord because He is amazing, pure and holy. I am stained with sin. But because of Jesus, I can be clean again. I can be forgiven and free from the old sin that tripped me up. I can honor God with my life choices every day!
My family and I recently took a Saturday to rake up the dead leaves that had fallen from the trees in our yards. It’s looked great until more leaves started coming down. This metaphor that Isaiah uses in (Isaiah 64) verse 6 really hit me. On my best day of honoring God, my sin is still present unless Jesus takes it away. Without Him, I become a dead leaf – no longer connected to the source of life and I die. With Him, my life is rich, well watered and connected to roots that go deep. He does amazing things in my life when I’m connected to Him.
