Keep On!
I can remember cheering my kids in sports over the years to “keep on”. “Give it your very best!” “Don’t Quit!” My youngest son Luke ran cross country and track and he trained to win. He heard me yelling at each meet. He always saved something for the finish line. The race was sometimes won or lost in that last 100 Yard sprint to the finish. It’s important to note that if had not kept running throughout the race, the sprint to the finish would have not meant much.
Life is a lot like a race. There is a finish line. There are also times we want to stop. Persistence is a fantastic attribute because there is power in a “made-up mind”. I get to decide how I’m going to live my life. I get to decide if I want the Lord’s help or not. I have tried it both ways and I determined many years ago that I need Him. Every day I need Him. I have also learned to lean into the power of prayer.
Jesus taught about persistent prayer in His sermon on the mountain. It was His first big event to bring new teaching to the world. They were well versed in the Old Law, but Jesus introduced prayer that goes directly to the Lord. His teaching was subtle at times and very direct at other times. Check this out….
7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8 NLT)
I believe in the power of prayer.
I believe in the power of persistent prayer.
My persistent prayer does break through because I’m obnoxiously persistent. My persistence is more about me than about the Father. He knows what I need before I ever ask. I must humble myself and keep asking.
Asking reveals dependence.
Asking reveals trust.
Asking means I need His help.
I’m going to keep praying little prayers. I’m going to keep praying big, audacious prayers. I’m going to keep talking to the Lord about everything. In my asking, I’m going to grow my listening so that I can hear and see His answer. I’m going to keep on!
Pressing On!
