Thankful & Alert
I’ve been guilty of praying prayers that I’ve prayed before without paying close attention to my words or the posture of my heart. Prayer can become mundane or routine.
I came across a short verse in Paul’s letter to the Colossians that moved my heart. It’s simple and to the point. Check this out…
2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. (Colossians 4:2 NLT)
This simple verse challenged me to always be alert in prayer. I don’t want to “mail it in”. I don’t want to say the same words as a habit, but genuinely be aware and present in the moment with deep gratitude in my heart. I want to genuinely pray for people that I say I’m praying for. I want a thankful heart to be the foundation of every prayer that I utter before the Lord.
Gratitude is not just a great virtue, it’s the mother of all virtues. (Cicero paraphrased) I want to begin my day with gratitude to the Lord for His blessing and His favor upon me and my family.
Pressing On!
