The Goodness of God
This is the name of one of my top five songs that I keep going back to. It has a simple, but profound message that strengthens my faith. When I get still and quiet to reflect on God’s Presence in my life, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for His Goodness. He has been so very patient with me over the years. He has been so generous with grace. His mercy still boggles my mind.
I came across and incident involving Paul and Barnabas while they were in Lystra. Paul sees a cripple man and notices that the man has faith to be healed. So, Paul tells the man to get up and walk – and the man’s crippled feet are healed! This is immediately noticed by the people, and they think Paul and Barnabas are Greek gods. The people are about to start worshipping Paul and Barnabas, but they point the people to the goodness of God. Check this out….
14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening, they tore their clothing in dismay and ran out among the people, shouting, 15 “Friends, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings—just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. 16 In the past he permitted all the nations to go their own ways, 17 but he never left them without evidence of himself and his goodness. For instance, he sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts.” (Acts 14:14-17 NLT)

I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In the darkest night
You are close like no other
I’ve known You as a Father
I’ve known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God
‘Cause Your goodness is running after
It’s running after me
Your goodness is running after
It’s running after me
With my life laid down
I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
‘Cause Your goodness is running after
It’s running after me
I’m so thankful that God has pursued me even when I wasn’t pursuing Him. His goodness is beyond description. His love is profound and deep beyond my ability to comprehend. My simple mind is accepting of God and His amazing love. He has shown me His goodness more times than I can count. Because of His goodness and His faithfulness to me – I want to follow Him all my days left here on earth.
Pressing On!
