Small Things

inspectorI usually like big things. I like big buildings – big car – big paycheck – big bank account. You get the picture. There are many things that are big that are good. There are also lots of small things that can be really big. I remember getting a small package for a gift and having someone remind me “big things sometimes come in small packages”. The Proverb writer reminded me of this truth as well. Check this out….

24 ‘Four things on earth are small,

    yet they are extremely wise:
25 ants are creatures of little strength,

    yet they store up their food in the summer;
26 rock badgers are creatures of little power,

   yet they make their home in the rocks;
27 locusts have no king,

    yet they advance together in ranks;
28 a lizard can be caught with the hand,

    yet it is found in kings’ palaces. (Proverbs 30:24-28 NIV)

I am not a fan of any of these creatures. For the most part, I see them as a nuisance. They were created by God for some purpose – I’m just not sure why. J I do appreciate the writer reminding me that I can learn from these little creatures. When I think of humans in the presence of God, we are also very small. One big difference that separates us from other creatures is that we were made in God’s Image.

I want to be a wise man.

I want to be a good steward of my time.

I want to be a wise manager of the resources I’m blessed with.

I want to a man who has the very Heart of God beating in my chest.

I’d rather have wisdom from the Lord than all the wealth in the world. I want to recognize the brevity and “smallness” of this life and keep my eyes on the “big” eternal life that He promises.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
