Trust Him To Build My Life

Trust with blue markerI want to be trusted. In fact, the subtitle of my REALTOR title is to be a “trusted advisor”. I must maintain integrity, honesty and honor to be trusted. Included in this description is competency. I must know what I’m doing. I must do what I say I’ll do and be who I say I am. I am continually building my business and it’s all based on these deep values. I take keeping other’s trust very seriously.

Jesus takes trust very seriously as well. He compels me to trust Him. I came across a small passage of scripture that I’m not sure I’ve ever noticed before involving trust. Check this out…

23 Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. 24 But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. 25 No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart. (John 2:23-24 NLT)

I read this and I began to wonder if the Lord trusts me. I do trust Him. I do try to order my life around His call upon my heart. I don’t think I’ve ever wondered if the Lord trusts me. I been overly concerned about my trusting Him. I want to be one of His trusted friends. I am Dad to five amazing kids. It is interesting to watch them grow and try things. It’s comical to think of the things that they tried that were wrong, but they tried to “get away with it”. It is a huge blessing to be able to put my trust in them. They are go where they say they are going. They give me reason to trust them. Yes, I’ve had trust with them broken.

Building trust is a delegate work in progress. It can take years to build and a millisecond to destroy. I want to keep building my life on the foundation of trust in the Lord. I love this song recorded at Passion 2017. It was written by Pat Barrett, Karl Martin, Matt Redman, Brett Younker.

Build My Life

Worthy of every song we could ever sing

Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring

Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe

We live for You

Jesus, the name above every other name

Jesus, the only one who could ever save

Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe

We live for You

Holy, there is no one like You

There is none beside You

Open up my eyes in wonder

Show me who You are

And fill me with Your heart

And lead me in Your love to those around me

I will build my life upon Your love

It is a firm foundation

I will put my trust in You alone

And I will not be shaken

My Best Self

Follow Lead Buttons Show Leading The Way Or FollowingA couple of years ago I was introduced to Darren Hardy who produces “Darren Daily” – a short motivational video that comes to my inbox every day of the week. He speaks about a daily habit or attitude that will help build me as a business leader and as a leader of my family. I enjoy these little video blogs and they help me grow. Yesterday’s challenge was about being my best self. This clip made me think and ponder my daily choices and ask the question: “Am I bringing my best self to work each day?”

I love starting my day listening to the Lord speak into my life through His Word. I feel like my heart gets rejuvenated and amped up for the day. This morning was no exception. I read in Colossians about more of what my “best self” could look like. Check this out…

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive. 14 Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. 15 And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:12-17 CSB)

I want to keep growing my “best self”. I want to continue to evaluate the direction of my daily life and my business. I want to keep growing as a follower of Jesus. I want to keep growing as a husband, Dad and Pop. I want to keep growing as REALTOR and Broker. I want to live my life in such a way that people are clearly aware that I’m a follower of Jesus because of the characteristics of my life.

My best self will always have Christ at the center of my life. I want to bring compassion, competence, consistency, skill, kindness, patience, service (this list could get long!) to every person I meet or work with. I want my best self to showcase my faith in the Lord.

Stages Of The Journey

Maturing personSometimes when I reflect back on my life’s journey I see different stages of my life. The things that I was working through in each of those stages look so different from this stage of my life than they did at the time I was in that particular stage. For example, when my first son was born…if I knew then what I know now. As I review these stages much can be gained by this reflection. It can bring a lot of joy to my heart, but here was also struggle that caused great pain.

Moses was instructed by God to record the stages of the journey of God’s people upon leaving Egypt. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the massive number because there were likely over 1 Million people in their group when they left Egypt. When they camped somewhere along the way, it was a big ordeal.  Moses records 41 camping stops in the 40+ years that they were nomadically traveling through the desert.  The people of Israel are at the threshold of the new land promised to them by God himself. Moses is instructed by God to give them some instructions for taking the land. This is a very important stage of the journey. Check this out…

50 On the plains of Moab by the Jordan opposite Jericho the Lord said to Moses, 51 ‘Speak to the Israelites and say to them: “When you cross the Jordan into Canaan, 52 drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places. 53 Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess. 54 Distribute the land by lot, according to your clans. To a larger group give a larger inheritance, and to a smaller group a smaller one. Whatever falls to them by lot will be theirs. Distribute it according to your ancestral tribes. (Numbers 33:51-54 NIV)

As I reflect on my journey upon leaving home upon graduation from High School…

I went to what is now Johnson University in Knoxville, TN.

I married a young lady from Newnan, GA and lived in a Campus Apartment.

I began a weekend ministry near Crossville, TN.

I accepted the position of Youth Minister in Maryville, TN and lived there 2.5 years.

I accepted the position of Youth Minister in Whitesburg, GA and lived there 5 years.

I accepted the position of Youth Minister in Carrollton, GA and served for nearly 12 years full-time and 3 additional years part time. I went through a divorce while serving as youth minister in Carrollton – a dark and painful experience. I was held together emotionally by some dear friends whom I treasure to this day.  I also remarried during a couple of years later to my wife Tina and we celebrated 20 years this past May. It was my understanding that if I left Carroll County Georgia that I would have to give up custody of my children so I started a new career path as a REALTOR. I do feel that the Lord is present with me today 13 years later.

The Lord is coaching me along the path I’m on. In many ways, He is more real to me now than I can recall on other parts of the journey. I also believe that the many things I learned at different stages of my journey have built me into who I am today.  Nearly 5 years ago, we felt called by God to adopt an 11 year old boy from Nicaragua. This experience took me to a whole new level of understanding the heart of God.

I’m simply a child of the Most High God who follows Jesus, husband to Tina, Dad to my kids and I strive to be the most professional, hard working REALTOR on the planet! I can hardly wait to see what this stage of life will look like when I’m looking back on it. I’m holding tight to the Lord’s hand through the rest of my stages in life!
