Work

Businessman runningI think I’ve been around work for most of my life. My Dad and Mom were hard workers for as long as I can remember.  When they retired from their regular jobs it was tough.  They had been used to routines and schedules. I remember watching my Dad start working around the house with a passion and diligence. I say my Mom start doing extra things to help others and to make their home more welcoming to others.

I’ve also been working to earn money since I was a youngster. I remember working in the hay fields, tobacco fields, and milking cows by hand.  I grew up on a farm and there was never a shortage of work to be done. I remember hearing that “if you don’t work, you don’t eat”.  This morning I ran across this concept in The Word. Check this out…

10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. 13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. (2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 NIV)

I believe work can be very fulfilling. When I bring home money that I’ve earned to provide for my family,  it is not only a blessing to them, but to me as well. We were wired to work. The ONE Who created us worked. He created. He built. He made. He put all of that into man, His most magnificent creation. I believe that when I work, I honor God. I believe that some work is harder than others. For example, I saw in the local paper where a fireman went down into a well to rescue a little girl who had fallen. He saved her life, but risking his own. He was interviewed afterward and said that “this was his job – no heroics here”. I imagine that he went home really blessed from that day of work.

I want every day of my work to honor God. When I first started working as a REALTOR nearly 11 years ago, I came up with a personal motto of how I work. Check it out…

Hard Work, Integrity & Honesty – My values that I’ll put to work for you!

I still stand by this. I believe that my core values are reflected in my every day working life. When I’m chosen as a REALTOR for someone to sell their property or buy their property, I’m aware that my work should represent the Lord.  I want to honor God with my work so that I can find true fulfillment!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
