Why?

What can I do? picture about regretThere are times when this question doesn’t have an answer. I’ve done stupid things before because I was just being stupid and not thinking. I really can’t say why I did something stupid other than not thinking. I didn’t plot or plan the stupidity – I just did it.  There are times when I do the same thing with the Lord. I will say or do something that smacks my faith in the face and I realize immediately how stupid that was. The only reason I can think of is the fact that I didn’t think.  This Psalm that I read this morning has some of that built in. Check this out…

Why do the nations conspire

and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth rise up

    and the rulers band together

against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break their chains

    and throw off their shackles.”
10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;

be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear

and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry

and your way will lead to your destruction,

for his wrath can flare up in a moment.

Blessed are all who take refuge in him. (Psalm 2:1-3; 10-12 NIV)

The bottom line is surrender to the Lord’s way. It doesn’t make sense to go against Him. He is the Way that leads to life – in fact He is LIFE!  I’m not sure why I would ever choose sides against the Lord. His way is the right way. His way is the Only way that leads to life. I want to find my refuge in Him and in Him alone. If I choose Him and His way – my “why” is built right into that decision.

The question, “Why”? is often rhetorical when asked, but also practical in light of following the Lord. I want Him to be my “Why”. I want to choose wisely today because He supplies wisdom an direction for my life.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
