The River

Waikato River near Huka Falls, NZI love hanging out near water. Last week I was able to hang out with my family on the lake. Streams of water feed lakes. Several creeks and rivers fed this particular lake. I haven’t given much thought to the origins of all these streams of water, but I’m sure thankful for the life-giving water they bring. Water is absolutely a necessary part of our lives here on earth. It is a “renewable resource” that we can’t do without.

As I was reading through Ezekiel this morning, I was reminded of how important water is to life. The imagery was too big to miss. Check this out…

Then the man led me back to the bank of the river. 7 As I went back, I saw many trees on both sides of the river. 8 The man said to me, “This water will flow toward the eastern areas and go down into the Jordan Valley. When it enters the Dead Sea, it will become fresh. 9 Everywhere the river goes, there will be many fish. Wherever this water goes the Dead Sea will become fresh, and so where the river goes there will be many living things.
12 All kinds of fruit trees will grow on both banks of the river, and their leaves will not dry and die. The trees will have fruit every month, because the water for them comes from the Temple. The fruit from the trees will be used for food, and their leaves for medicine.” (Ezekiel 47:6b-9, 12 NCV)

The picture here is a river flowing from the Temple of God bringing fresh water to everything! I love the thought that the very substance of life comes from the Temple of God. This river brings life to everything it touches. It makes things that were dead come to life. I love the imagery of the live giving water touching the Dead Sea and bringing it to life. This river has power over dead things.

I want to be connected to the life-giving water that comes from God. I want my life to be drenched with this life-giving water. I want to drink it in and connect with the Lord on a much deeper level. I want this life-giving water to touch the dead parts of me and bring them to life! The incredible thing about the River of God is that it will NEVER run dry. It does not fluctuate with drought conditions. Its Source is the Creator Himself – the One Who controls everything!  I want my life planted squarely as near to the River of God as I can get because of the Life it brings!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
