Promise Kept

because I said I wouldIt’s pretty easy to make a promise to someone. Often these promises are made under duress and at other times promises are made in the best of conditions without much thought of the fulfillment costs.

The Lord promised the Israelites the land beyond the Jordan (The Promised Land) and they had a part to play in taking the land. Their obedience to the Lord was required. They had to follow the Lord’s battle plan. (Marching around a city once each day and then seven times on the seventh day didn’t make a lot of sense.) They had to fight with the Lord’s help.

After taking the land, they gave the tribe of Levite cities and pasturelands throughout the country. They were provided for because they provided the spiritual leadership throughout the entire nation of Israel. Check this out…

43 So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. 44 The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands. 45 Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled. (Joshua 21:43-45 NIV)

The Lord kept all of His promises. He hasn’t stopped doing that. I sometimes don’t understand the road map that the Lord uses to get where He’s going, but He always arrives on time and keeps His Word. His promises are all true. His promise to never leave me has been tested by me a few times. He is faithful. He is patient.

I need to be careful when I promise to do something for someone. I need to keep my word and complete what I said I’d do. I recently had the opportunity to hear Alex Sheen the founder of “Because I Said I Would”. He had story upon story of people who were making promises to do something for someone else and completing the promise without fail. “Because I Said I Would” is a social movement and nonprofit dedicated to the betterment of humanity. People make and keep promises to end suffering, establish peace and build happiness. Their mission is to strengthen humanity’s will. They created the PROMISE CARD to help hold people accountable to their commitments. This movement is designed to help normal everyday people make and keep a promise to improve themselves, their family or their community.

I would be wise to keep the promises I make, no matter who I make them too. I should hold myself accountable to the Lord to do what I say I’ll do and to be who I say I’ll be.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
