Inner Voice

It’s hard to explain something that is unexplainable. (Now that was not a profound statement at all.) I mean how can I explain logically my relationship with God? God is Spirit, yet if He chooses, He could become Flesh and Bones. His Presence is impossible for me to miss, by also impossible for me to explain and describe with words. I can’t explain how animals of nature know when to do certain things and when not to do certain things. They always seem to be on time. They must have some sort of inner voice.

I believe that everyone starts life with a conscience, which gives us an inner voice to guide our behavior. It nudges us when we’re about to do something wrong. It affirms us when we are doing something right.  I do believe that the conscience can be ignored as well as beaten down and destroyed. I believe that when I invited the Lord into my life, He took over that inner voice by the presence of the Holy Spirit in me.  Jeremiah speaks to the people of Judah, who have ignored the voice of the Lord. Check this out….

4 “Say to the people of Judah: ‘This is what the Lord says:
When people fall down, don’t they get up again?

And when someone goes the wrong way, doesn’t he turn back?
5 Why, then, have the people of Jerusalem gone the wrong way

    and not turned back?
They believe their own lies

and refuse to turn around and come back.
6 I have listened to them very carefully,

but they do not say what is right.

They do not feel sorry about their wicked ways,

    saying, “What have I done?”
Each person goes his own way,

like a horse charging into a battle.
7 Even the birds in the sky

know the right times to do things.

The storks, doves, swifts, and thrushes

know when it is time to migrate.
But my people don’t know

what the Lord wants them to do. (Jeremiah 8:4-7 NCV)

God wants to direct my path, but gives me the freedom to choose a different path. God will strengthen my inner voice as I fellowship with Him and surrender to His ways for me. He makes the inner voice louder because of my fellowship with Him in His Word. He loves it when I follow Him and ignore the evil one whispering lies in my ears.  John said it plain as could be. Check this out…

24 The people who obey God’s commands live in God, and God lives in them. We know that God lives in us because of the Spirit God gave us. (1 John 3:24 NCV)

The Holy Spirit will prompt…will speak….will guide my actions. It is imperative that I listen and respond to His leadership in my heart.  I want to cultivate the presence of God in me today and every day!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
