Hot & Cold

cold and hot glossy button set isolated over blackI loved playing this game as a kid. One kid would leave the room and the teacher and all of us would decide what we wanted them to touch or pick-up. We would all be yelling “Hot or Cold”. We would sometimes let them know that they were closing in by yelling “warmer”. It was a fun game. I added a variation once and chose about 5 of the 30 kids playing to yell the opposite instruction. It caused lots of confusion and chaos.  The culture I live in sends all sorts of instructions my way about what is the right thing to do and the wrong thing to do. This morning I heard from the words of Jesus on this subject.  Check this out….

15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. (Revelation 3:15-19 NIV)

I am going to use the Word of God and the Whispers of God as my instructions on how to live, love and serve. I hear lots of suggestions, but I’m going to stick with what I know in His Word as well as what I’ve experienced.  I believe that the Lord will keep speaking instruction into my life through His Word if I will study His Word. He is always ready to speak into me –It’s like He’s waiting on me to sit down and listen to Him.

I love the picture of Him knocking on the door of my heart wanting to come in for a visit. I want to be a person who listens for the knock of God on the door of my heart. I want to keep listening for Him to prompt me to serve Him wherever and whenever.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
