Hold The Door

DoormenAs I was growing up, my parents taught me to “hold the door” for others. I was especially instructed to hold the door for women. It was a respectful and honorable thing for a man to do. As I’ve grown in my faith over the years, I realized that I am called by the Lord to serve others on His behalf.

I was introduced to this concept from a spiritual perspective most recently through the Passion Movement. They began calling all the support staff and actually the entire ministry staff, Door Holders.  Louie and Shelly GIglio began pouring into their entire team that they were “Doorholders” who hold the door for others to come in a know the Lord.  I was blessed by this picture.  John the Baptist was a door holder too!! Check this out….

7 As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written:
“‘I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way before you.’
11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. 15 Whoever has ears, let them hear. (Matthew 11:7-15 NIV)

I’m called to “hold the door” for others to come and see what the Lord has done in my life and is doing in my life. Holding the door is about the King of Kings – the Gamechanger – the One Who can save my soul.  I want to be a door holder in the Kingdom of God. I want to hold the door for others to know Him and to see all that He can do in their live. The lead pastor of the church is a door holder. The volunteer in the nursery is a door holder. Jesus said that as great as John the Baptist was, “whoever is least in the kingdom is greater than he”  Door Holding gives serving a practical name!

Pressing On!
