Don’t Say It

LipsThere are times when I really want to say something and I catch myself editing what I’m about to say to the point, I don’t say anything. I’m starting to feel like I’m finally learning how important the timing of my words can be. Then again, I’ll blurt something out that would have been better left unsaid. My words reveal a lot of things about me and I don’t always think that through. As I grow in my faith, I’m trying really hard to keep my “editing machine” working in tiptop fashion. The words of my mouth reveal my heart and often my inner thoughts. I don’t want to be foolish and sling lots of meaningless frivolous words around. Check this out….

12 Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious,
    but fools are consumed by their own lips.
13 At the beginning their words are folly;
    at the end they are wicked madness –
14 and fools multiply words.
No one knows what is coming –
    who can tell someone else what will happen after them?
15 The toil of fools wearies them;
    they do not know the way to town. (Ecclesiastes 10:12-15 NIV)

There is a good way to say everything. This doesn’t mean that everything I say will be received in the spirit that I tried to say it. I do believe if I will think twice before I speak, I will be less likely to sound like a foolish person. I remember hearing someone point out to me once that the Lord gave us 2 ears and only 1 mouth – He was implying that we are to listen (think) twice was much (before) we speak.

I remember the other day I said something that didn’t come out the way I intended and no matter what I tried to do, I couldn’t erase the hurt my words had caused. I want to be very wise in my use of words to build others up and not tear them down. I don’t want to “oversell” myself as a REALTOR professional or “undersell” for that matter. I don’t want to “puff-up” a certain house over another. I want to be careful with every word I speak and make sure I’m gracious, discerning and wise with my words.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
