Comparable

This is a word that is used quite often in our culture. We make comparisons a lot and sometimes we hardly realize it. I sometimes compare my “stuff” with others stuff. As Dave Ramsey says we like to impress and keep up with people we don’t know or ever like.

In the Real Estate world a lot is made of a comparable. The value of a home is often determined by a comparable sale of a home that is really close to being like the subject property. It is definitely a little more complex than that, but the comparable method or the market value method is widely used to determine the value of real property. Determining value becomes a real challenge when there is not such comparable. Another method to determine value is the cost replacement approach. This approach determines value based on what it would cost to replace the property at today’s prices.

Finding value in things that we hold dear is somewhat personal and subjective. I may see a watch worn by my Grandpa as extremely valuable due to the sentimental value to me, when to someone else, it’s just an old watch. As I read the prophet Micah this morning I began to realize again the value of knowing the Lord. Check this out….

7 But I will look to the Lord.

I’ll put my trust in God my Savior.

    He will hear me.

18 Lord, who is a God like you?

    You forgive sin.

You forgive your people

when they do what is wrong.

You don’t stay angry forever.

Instead, you take delight in showing

    your faithful love to them.

19 Once again you will show loving concern for us.

    You will completely wipe out

    the evil things we’ve done.

You will throw all our sins

into the bottom of the sea. (Micah 7:7,18-19 NIV)

There is no one comparable to the Lord. There is no one who “brings to the table” what He does. There is no one full of mercy like the Lord. There is no one full of forgiveness like the Lord. There is no one who loves like Him. There really is no one like the Lord. He is the Creator. He is the Giver of Life. He is the Sustainer of Life – nothing and no one compares to Him!

Pressing On!

Dwayne
